About Annie

I wanted an instrument to play starting when I was about 10. One of my friends had a ukulele, so I thought it would be great to have one of those, or maybe a guitar. Fortunately, my parents got me a “Stella” guitar for Christmas. ...Doubt if I’d have done so well with the uke in the long run...not enough vowels in my name! My brothers gave me some Peter, Paul and Mary songbooks to go with my “Stella”, so my fledgling attempts at playing music was largely in that vein; I also loved camp songs and singing with groups of friends. Since getting a guitar, playing it has always been a part of my life and my therapy; sometimes playing 8 hours a day, sometimes not picking it up for months, but always coming back to it. I have played in various combinations over the years; duos, trios, bands--even a country band, and in 1996 put out an album called “Something Special.” That was all acoustic guitar, and mostly folky and mellow.

This new album, “Connected” is much more varied. It is dedicated to the memory of my parents, Nancy and Charles, my grandmother, Lucy, and my aunt, Louise, who gave me the love of language, good humor, and storytelling. I think they’d like it.

I’m so thankful to all of my friends and colleagues for giving me energy and ideas, which I now return to you in song. If this brings you even a fraction of the pleasure it’s given me in creating it, we will all be whistling—or, like me, wishing we could! Thanks so much for listening and for getting “Connected.”
